    Bugging out only makes sense if: i) staying where you are is untenable and a risk to life and limb; ii) you have somewhere to bug out to - preferably somewhere there is at least six months of reliable food supplies and unlimited water, and everybody and his brother isn't heading to the same place; iii) you have an exit route that will be clear. In an emergency, many routes will be clogged with traffic and impassable as people try to flee. Trying to make a go of things in the woods will be virtually impossible if you are on your own. If you are seriously injured, you'll be screwed because medical care or even first aid will likely not be available. Your chances of survival will be much greater if you are in a larger group of people and you plan on living a hunter-gatherer lifestyle where everybody pitches in to acquire the necessities of survival.

    I bought a Civivi Elementum with Ultem scales about 9-10 months ago and the D2 blade is really collecting a lot of rust, I live in a very humid area right next to the coast in NC and I’ve used alcohol and even used a potato 🥔, surprisingly it got all the rough spots off but it’s still looks like it could use some more cleaning, I figured I’d try nail polish remover to see if it’ll get what is still on it off, just wanted to make sure that it wasn’t going to ruin the blade, I don’t mind some discoloration/patina but that rust color on the blade has got to go…, I’ve seriously been considering trying to find a used Elementum with a S35VN blade and then just switch the blade to the one with the Ultem scales, when/if I can find one for cheap enough that is, and when I can afford it that is…, the Ultementum would be perfect with a S35VN blade…😮‍💨

    The cheaper locks are fairly easy to pick (as you said) but high security locks are being used more and more these days. These locks use security pins which are very difficult to pick. they can be picked, but there is a special technique required - a certain 'feel' for it. I would recommend checking out Bosnian Bill, who is a locksmith, and he shows you how to get past the security devices within these locks, on his channel; www.youtube.com/@bosnianbill

    Most of the clear practice locks on amazon only have one pin holding it from coming unlocked, the back pin is the only one that needs lifted to unlock it. That isn't any good for practice lol so hopefully nobody has any of those....

      I have to say; that's very noble of you (I'm not being sarcastic) but when the time comes that you need to pick a lock in order to escape from a captive situation (or rescue someone else), you might wish that you had not been so law-abiding. I once made a lock-pick set for a friend. He told me, some time later, that he had used it to get back into his house after locking himself out.

    • @TheSurvivalSummit
      @TheSurvivalSummit 15 дней назад

      We all prefer to hunker down, but having a P.A.C.E. plan isn't really running and hiding. It's proper preparation. If your neighborhood and house flooded, or a fire was going to burn down your property, and you had to get to safety, wouldn't you want to be prepared with an actual plan? Don't get us wrong, fortifying your home is essential, but if it's someone's only plan, then they don't actually have a plan. They already live there. Having an alternate, contingency and emergency plan in any situation is how you survive when your primary plan doesn't work out. Bugging out doesn't mean going to live in the woods. It could simply be going to a friend or family members house, further away from whatever the situation is, and preferrable have those other locations stocked with supplies. Bugging out into the woods should be the drop dead last ditch plan known as the emergency in P.A.C.E. Unfortunately too many "companies" push bugging out as something that resembles more of a very bad idea that most people are not ready or trained for. We are not one of those companies. Most people, including us, will attempt to hunker down if possible, but it will always depend on the situation where and how that happens.

      Activated charcoal is best if you know how to make it. Charcoal you pull from your campsite will work for taste, but not for anything more. Anything you buy at the grocery store likely has chemicals, and you can’t use those; like fire starting charcoal. Don’t use that.

Due to the massive worldwide decline in insect populations, the entire ecosystem will collapse in a few years, and it will be 100,000 times worse than the Great Chinese Famine caused by humans in 1959 when Mao ordered the extermination of sparrows. Do you have any tips on how to protect ourselves when there will be many food shortages and the entire ecosystem collapses?

    • @chriswhinery

      Easiest thing to do is grow a garden, and learn how to pollinate the plants by hand. A couple examples... tomatoes, peppers (fruiting plants) when they flower, use a small fine paint brush and dab it on the flowers, brushing each one daily. They'll naturally pollinate with a 30% success rate, but if you do it yourself that increases to 90% For vined plants, zucchini, squash, cantaloupe, etc. they have a male and female flower. You can tell the difference. The female will have a small zucchini, squash, etc. pull the male flower off and brush it on the females. To max out the health of the harvest, you don't want to have too many fruit growing on the same plant. A dozen (max) is what works well. Also trim the ends from the vines so they don't keep growing out, and the plant can concentrate on feeding the fruit. If you do a search you'll find the ways to pollinate your whole garden, whatever you choose to grow.

Reason because if it's really the apocalypse or even serious harsh times, then I'm gonna be dropping weight like crazy due to eating less, being on the move, and just stress from the chaos and even loss of life from loved ones and friends. It all aluminum so no rust. I would line the bottom with a tarp. You could keep this loaded all the time. Could use the rod holder on one side to hold up a tarp with branches or track poles to stay under in case of bad weather.

      The shopping cart idea was really meant for brand new preppers who don't have a P.A.C.E. plan (primary, alternate, contingency, emergency). Realistically, to do it more efficiently, you wouldn't need to travel with all of those supplies. If you set up caches along routes to your bugout location, which could be as simple as a friend or family members house in a more rural area, as well as set up caches at those locations, you can travel fast and light with just your bugout bag. It can't hurt to take a cart of some type to load up even more items, as long as you don't mind having to ditch it along the way if things go wrong. You wouldn't want your primary gear, or the food you need to survive, all in a cart. P.A.C.E. planning is essential for long-term survival. You should also only use staying in the woods as the last ditch part of your plan, as an emergency only.

    As far as certain prescription drugs are concerned, there are some that can be ordered online. Also, a few modern ailments can be treated far more effectively with diet alone; do your homework sooner rather than later, and if you are treating for some of these ailments, consider getting on and prepping for this possibility. Very few doctors have any idea that most of our modern infirmities are actually caused by our modern diet and can be treated through dietary measures, so dig very deeply.
